The human form is an endlessly fascinating subject. The practice of drawing the nude from life, or “Life Drawing” is an activity that has preoccupied artists since man first picked up drawing tools. It has been used as an exercise to hone drawing skills down through the ages. But it is also a powerful means of capturing the emotion and frailty of the human condition, expressed through the body.….in all its glory and vulnerability.
These drawings are done in compressed chalks, charcoals, and graphite. They are not deliberated over. These are quick, lively sketches of the model – an attempt to capture the response that the nude presents and the emotions that the pose suggests to me, without over-thinking too much.
